Today we interviewed Brad from Seattle Urban Farming Company at the Bastille Restaurant in Ballard, WA near Seattle. Brad has been working with his business partner Colin McCrate building rooftop gardens and educating the community on urban farming practices since 2007. They currently have three restaurants that have enlisted their services to deliver fresh organic produce directly from their rooftops. Bastille Restaurant even had them involved in the construction phase to ensure that the roof was properly designed to sustain weight and foot traffic. Their strategy has the potential transform urban environments into productive spaces, supplement local businesses with delicious, nutritious food, and inform the public on how they can create their own food in whatever living space they have available.
